And this is what I intended to address in the article - these two issues should be considered separately. Handling illegal immigrants that are already here does not change the need to address immigration laws for future immigrants to the U.S.

Re: A Fate Forestalled: Deportation and the Illegal Immigration Debate

Immigration reform should only contain abolishing anchor baby citizenship, deportation of illegals, tracking people who's visas have expired and no tolerance for any kind of disrepect for our immigration laws. Until this practice isf enforced we will never be able to curb illegal immigration. Come to think of it, I like the houses on the other side of town, maybe I will climb the fence and live in one of those.

Re: 10 Black Entrepreneurs To Know

Congrats to this great group of entrepreneurs!!

Re: 10 Black Entrepreneurs To Know

Great list of inspiring peeps.

Re: 10 Black Entrepreneurs To Know

Wooaaaa.. I, a black female, went on a first date with a white male. The looks from white and black couples were enough to make anyone lose his/her appetite. That being said, I am in the south, Memphis, TN. But I must ask, why does race matter?

Re: It’s all Fun and Games Until Christ Comes Back…

I would argue because religion is so much more than that. It is more than that precisely for what you describe in the first sentence - religion is personal. It is about building that personal relationship, that personal faith, that unwavering belief in that which is the guiding force in your life. It is true that Christianity has been used as an institution to justify many atrocities. However it is more than just the bad things propagated in its name.

It is also the individual testimonies that people have where their connection to God, and their baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost has been the moment with the most impact in their lives. So at the end of the day, I would not want to subject anyone to ridicule for what they believe. The lesson here is that no one can predict when the exact day or time will be that the world will end/Rapture & Second Coming will occur. That is what is outlandish here - the outlandish idea shouldn't be the fact that some people believe Jesus's coming will signal the end of the world.

Re: Filthy Rags To Riches by Reggie Legend

This is a good piece!

Re: It’s all Fun and Games Until Christ Comes Back…

I'm not a religious person. I believe matters of religion are and should be personal. The problems arise when people take it upon themselves, from whatever justification, to promote their religious views. Clearly, religion is an extremely dangerous social construct, which may be responsible for more social turmoil than imperialism. Like other religions, Christianity hides behind "good works" and the "human condition" to justify its atrocities. Christianity needs to fully divorce itself of capitalism, imperialism, racism, sexism, profiteering, bigotry and hypocrisy, before we should respect it as an institution worthy of exceeding ridicule. Yet, as the religion (and several other popular ones) has been built on those isms, how is it plausible that we not ridicule those who manipulate the public into mass hysteria with their personal dogma?

Re: W.O.W.
I followed this issue last week in awe. The simple word around liberal political circles was that Lupe was on a publicity hunt, and who better to put the bulls eye on that Obama. As all things political, I was skeptical in fully embracing such a malignant simplification.. And on further investigation, I arrived at a similar conclusion... He was buttressing a worthwhile point in a not so polised way (at least in a way the political belladonnas of our time would have liked).

The behavior, paperwork, and the like, who can blame them. Seemingly, pay scales keep such minorities fixated in lower income brackets, thus, beginning the cycle of poverty and impoverished families and poor incomes as well.

Re: Sarah Palin needs to go away… Third of three topics to kill dead.

@onechele Haha I concur with this. I think when it comes down to it, she had a good run, but now even the people that she would "inspire" may be coming to grips with the fact that she is just a fad.

Re: Sarah Palin needs to go away… Third of three topics to kill dead.

I'm as equally confused by the type of person who supports her.

Re: Did He Have to Die? : And the Right to Vigilante Justice

Very well written Joe. I have to be honest that the difficulty I have with interracial dating for myself, or as a parent, would be what you highlighted about a person's beliefs being equally yoked to mine or my children. It is easy to look at differing racial experiences as a clear divider when it comes to cultural understanding of the world one another may face in an interracial relationship.

But I also realize that if love is love, then it is more about the person and their character than what outwardly y'all have in common. Well articulated, brother.
